Mossley, Greater Manchester.

The recce for the Mossley ramble was on a cold April day with hail showers but the May coach ramble was on a very warm day.  A party of 15 led by Peter Wilson enjoyed a moderate 5 hour walk from Mossley to Hartshead Pike, with a lunch stop at Park Bridge.  Frank Atherton led the group of 24 on the shorter walk along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal form Uppermill to Diggle.  At lunch time they watched the barge trip emerge from the Standedge Tunnell before following the railway track back towards the start.  They had to negotiate two large areas of water and some found that they could not walk on water!  Back in Uppermill there was plenty of time for drinks and ice cream.
