Standish 2014

Phil Bullen led the pre-Christmas local footpath walk from Standish on the 20th of DecemberA good turnout of 20, including a few new faces, enjoyed a walk of about  5 miles.  The route followed the old railway line to the Britannia Inn at Almond Brook, then round Arbour Lane to access the footpath that passed the sites of the long demolished Hermitage and Standish Hall, leading into Elnup Wood.  Unfortunately path improvement
work in the wood had not been completed resulting in a very muddy stretch.
We eventually reached the old Roman Road known as Standish Wood Lane and returned past the water tower and the cricket field to our starting point.
A celebratory drink in the Lychgate completed an enjoyable afternoon.
