Stafford 2015

Our annual spring three days escapade was based this year at the Mercure Hatherton House Hotel in Penkridge, six miles south of Stafford.  Sixty one adults and one child participated in the event and enjoyed excellent walking in Cannock Chase and the surrounding countryside.  Twenty five people travelled to Penkridge by private coach and the remaining ones came by car.

The hotel accommodation was very comfortable and there was plenty of positive feedback on the quality of accommodation, meals, service and friendliness of the staff.  One slight disappointment was that the filter system to the swimming pool was not working properly and the pool had to be closed until repairs have been carried out.  The pool was therefore out of bounds during the time of our stay but the other facilities in the leisure club were available for guests use.

Six walks, varying in length between 5 miles and 12 miles were organised and the weather in general was fine but a little on the cool side (see separate reports on the walks)

On the Sunday evening Margaret Atherton had assembled from our ranks an hitherto undiscovered pool of talented entertainers ranging from outrageous can- can girls, dancers, comedy acts and sketches, singers and sing-alongs. (we must bring along a PA system next time).

Well done Margaret and to all members of our group who stepped forward to provided such a lively and entertaining conclusion to a really enjoyable weekend.

We started the weekend holidays fifteen years ago and the numbers participating have increased year on year.  The difficulty now is finding different locations offering attractive walking with reasonably priced hotel accommodation for such a large group.  We have to start planning the next venue at a very early stage in order to secure accommodation, indeed the hunt has already started.
